I was born in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, where I conducted my formal training at the college there.
In 1989 I studied painting at Cardiff Institute of Higher Education.
I graduated in 1992, and then spent the next 2 years working as an artist in Wakefield.
For the next decade I worked at HMP Leeds, teaching art, which gave me little time to paint. I then worked as manager of an art, media & performing arts in Lincolnshire.
I left this job due to ill health, which resulted in my subsequent disability - leaving me in a wheelchair.
