BLUEJAYWAY DIGITAL ARTS

About the Artist - Jason Wilsher-Mills

My name is Jason Wilsher-Mills and I am a digital artist, who uses an ipad to create digital paintings, which are then printed out on high quality handmade water colour paper.

Through my paintings I create images which are a direct reaction to my illness and disability. I detail my life as a disabled person, using images which are often provocative but humorous.

I create 'other selves' and place this character in theatrical costumes and settings, which serve as a means to challenge my disability, so that it does not master me. Through the use of this 'theatrical artifice' I create new biographies, which I can then explore.

I have recently exhibited at galleries in both San Francisco & Cork Street, London, where I won a prize for my work.

Next year I will be working with Wakefield Trinity WIldcats RLFC as their artist in residence, on an ambitious 12 month project, which will see some incredibly and innovative new art being made in the area, which will create a culture of creativity and a long standing legacy for the cultural identity of the club.

I am presently working with the Arts Council to write a bid which will provide much of the funding, along with local charities and organisations.

I will also be exhibiting at the National Centre of Craft & Design, in a group exhibition which will be on between July & September.
